Officer takes leaf out of fictional detective's disguise book to catch 53-yr-old prof and his gang of conmen

On Wednesday, his team received a complaint about a gang of conmen, including a 53-year-old professor, who cheated people after promising them business loans.
To investigate the complaint, Lokeshwar took a leaf out of Holmes's book.
He disguised himself as a rich businessmanu00a0-- he dressed in silk shirt and cotton trousers, wore jewellery and Kolhapuri chappals and dyed his hair. Now 'Holmes' was ready to catch his 'Professor James Moriarty', the academic-criminal in the Doyle's series.
He then approached Ravindranath Reddy, the professor in the gang, for a loan of Rs 7 crore. Lokeshwar told MiD-DAY that he got the contact number from an advertisement in a newspaper.
Lokeshwar arranged to meet Reddy and his two associates Umashankar and Sunil at Prashanth Hotel in Gandhinagar at 8 am on Thursday.
Trap's set
During their meeting Reddy told him that he and his associates have black money of over several hundred crore and offered a loan at a minimum of six per cent interest rate. Reddy demanded Lokeshwar pay him one per cent of the loan amount as commission towards stamp duty payment. He told him to bring the money to Cantonment Railway Station where his associates Poonamji and Arun Kumar would hand him over the loan amount.
Lokeshwar persuaded the trio to accompany him to the Cantonment Railway Station. Meanwhile, he deputed his team to lay the trap for Poonamji and Arun Kumar. However, sensing danger, Arun Kumar and Poonamji did not come. Finally, Lokeshwar closed the trap on Reddy, Umashankar and Sunil. On interrogation, Reddy confessed to the crime.
